OUR STORY

We met through an online dating site -- or as we like to say Old Man Harmony introduced us. Our first date was very cliche -- coffee at a local place where we spent hours telling each other about our backgrounds, family traditions, and future plans. On that night we learned that we were both interested in adopting at some point in our lives, so we are excited to watch that dream become reality.

David proposed in December of 2014, just one short year after that first date. We were were married on March 28, 2015. One of our favorite aspects about the wedding was getting to have Jenny's grandpa and David's dad officiate. The first year and a half of our marriage was spent in Lee's Summit, MO where David taught high school and Jenny taught middle school. In June 2016 David accepted a job as the pastor of a church in Ridgway, IL, so we moved 400 miles from suburban Missouri to rural Illinois. Jenny now teaches Family and Consumer Sciences at a high school in Kentucky.

Soon after we were married we knew we were ready to bring kids into our family. Through a series of events, it became evident that our odds of having biological children were extremely slim, so we happily began the journey toward adopting our first child.

We absolutely love being married to one another. We have so much fun playing mini golf, going to church together, or just hanging out at home. We can't wait for trips to the zoo, birthday parties, and bedtime stories. Bringing children into the mix will give us so much joy, and we are excited to experience the rollercoaster of parenting together.

MEET DAVID

Written by Jenny

Intelligent, funny, and kind are the three words I would use to describe David. He is the type of guy that knows a little bit about a lot of things. He is kind of a nerd at heart (I would elaborate, but it would be too embarrassing for both of us), but he is super into sports, so it balances out. His goofiness keeps me laughing and his sarcasm keeps me rolling my eyes. When David is around, things seem a little brighter thanks to his good natured personality.

On a Saturday morning, you can usually find David playing disc golf at our local park -- no matter if it is 100 degrees or freezing rain. He tells me that he played a lot of sports when he was younger, but this is where I see the athlete inside. He strives to be better each time he hits the course by practicing and reading more disc golf forums than you even knew existed. He already talks about taking our future children out to the park with him when they are old enough. This is another thing I love about David -- instead of his hobbies being an escape from his family, he wants to get our kids involved with him.

Speaking of children, I have yet to meet a kid that doesn't love David. He plays silly games, makes goofy faces to get a laugh, and spends time genuinely talking to them. He loves to recount stories of our nieces, nephews, and friends' children to anyone who will listen. In fact, once he is a dad, I would advise just staying away from him at parties because he will only talk about his kids. Plus he already has a repertoire of dumb dad jokes and comebacks.

David takes his job as a pastor very seriously. He believes there is nothing more important than a person's faith, and has makes it his personal mission to spread the word of God as much as possible. He loves nothing more than helping people understand the Bible and talking to them about Christ. This is where I see his kindness and generosity most. He loves and cares for the people of our church with an intensity and passion that I admire and respect.

I tend to focus on making things perfect and getting the job done, but David is my balance. He views life as something that is meant to be enjoyed. He won't be a dad who is working late hours to finish a project or sitting on the sidelines while the kids have all the fun. You'll find him in the backyard tossing the football, helping the kids make a mess in the playroom, or playing a game at the kitchen table. He is a good man, and I know he's going to make a great father.

MEET JENNY

Written by David

Jenny is probably the most competitive person I've ever met (in a good way). She strives to be the absolute best at everything she does, and she has been pretty successful so far in life. She is one of the smartest people I know, she is great at being fun and goofy, she makes the best chocolate chip cookies I've ever tasted, and she is incredibly compassionate, always looking for the good in people and ways to help them.

I think that being a mom is the thing Jenny has been preparing for her whole life, and I know that she is going to be the absolute best at it, too. Jenny loves kids, and she makes them feel loved the minute she walks into a room. Within the first five minutes we meet a family with kids, Jenny usually has a new best friend. When we recently moved to Illinois, I think leaving our niece and nephews behind may have been the hardest thing for her. I know that she can't wait until the day when we have our own kids for whom she can bake cookies, read books, teach them to swim, and be at EVERY school function.

Jenny spends a lot of her time decorating our home, doing photography (she is loving sunsets over the corn silos around here), and working on arts and crafts projects. I know she will always encourage our children to explore their creative and artistic side. She is super creative and always has a new idea for something to create for our house. She has made our home warm and inviting. Now all we want is a child with whom to share it.

Jenny works as a teacher, and she is great at it. She knew she wanted to be a teacher since she was in fifth grade, and it shows. The kids love her, and she really does look out for what is best for her students. She always gets so excited when we see former students out in public that come over and talk with her about how much they remember her and enjoyed her classes. I see how much she loves her students, and I can't even begin to imagine how much she is going to love and care for our children someday.

Jenny is the best partner in crime a guy could ask for. She loves God and helps me every day I serve as pastor. In fact, I often joke with the folks at church that I think they like her much more than they like me. I love Jenny, and I can't imagine anyone who would be a better mother. You can't possibly know how thankful she would be if you gave her that opportunity.
